(Victor Valley)– On the below-mentioned date, the San Bernardino County Fire Department will be conducting a live fire training exercise on Little Mountain. The exercise will include live fire that includes fire suppression techniques with the use of fire engines, dozers, and rotary aircraft. This emergency equipment is participating in the training exercise, and therefore does not indicate the presence of an actual emergency or uncontrolled wildfire. This training exercise is a vital tool to provide your firefighters with realistic, scenario based training that will serve to enhance their skills and better prepare them to provide excellence in service during the 2018 wildland fire season.
As a planned benefit of this training, we have researched and identified the areas that are most prone to human caused, fast moving, destructive wildfires that resulted in damage to private property and public infrastructure in the past. As a result, our training plan includes a focused effort to eliminate the hazardous fuels in these areas to diminish, and in some cases eliminate the threat of uncontrolled wildfire this year.
The streets surrounding the live training burn include: Little Mt. Drive, East to “E” St., South of Kendall, and North of Marshall. We are asking the public to use caution, and please slow down around the affected areas. Some residential streets may be closed to through traffic and only open to residents. There will be visible smoke in and around the area, so traffic flow may be impeded.
San Bernardino County Fire Department, along with San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department would like to remind citizens that the use of any aerial drones during firefighting operations is strictly prohibited. It becomes a life hazard to the aircraft in the air and firefighters on the ground.
Safety Message: Please be fire safe this summer. Call police if you witness any suspicious activity (See something, Say something). Be proactive, not reactive, because during a wildfire, YOU HAVE NO TIME!!!
