By Staff Reports

(Hesperia)– The California Association of Recreation and Park Districts bestowed two of its annual Awards of Distinction upon local volunteers serving the Hesperia community.  Abbigal Maciel, a 17 year old resident of Hesperia, was presented with the Outstanding Volunteer Award.  Abbigal has served her community as a volunteer coach for the Hesperia Recreation and Park District’s Girls Youth Volleyball League – dedicating over 200 hours of teaching, training, and mentoring young girls on the fundamentals of volleyball and sportsmanship.  She is also recognized for her other volunteer commitments with her church and school.

The Hesperia Fire Explorer Post 152 was the recipient of the Outstanding Community Organization Award.  The long established, since the 1970’s, all volunteer explorer post made of youth and young adults from the ages of 14 to 21, was recognized for its significant volunteer contributions to the Hesperia Recreation and Park District.  Throughout 2017, the Hesperia Fire Explorer Post 152 provided countless volunteers to assist with the District’s special events.  The success of community-wide events such as the District’s 60thBirthday Bash, the annual Hesperia Days festival, and the Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony could not have been accomplished without the services of the dedicated explorers who selflessly contribute their time, ensuring that these events run smoothly and safely, ultimately benefiting the community.

The Hesperia Recreation and Park District congratulates both Abbigal Maciel and Hesperia Fire Explorer Post 152 on their Awards of Distinction and also extends its appreciation for their outstanding volunteer efforts and commitment to the Hesperia community.
