(Victor Valley)– Heading into the Labor Day weekend, gas prices have moved up in most areas and may continue upward in coming days on news that some refineries may have miscalculated demand for summer blend gasoline, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California’s Weekend Gas Watch. The retail statewide average is $3.59 a gallon for regular unleaded, which is one cent lower than last week.

The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $3.64 per gallon, which is two cents higher than last week, unchanged from last month, and 59 cents higher than last year. In San Diego, the average price is $3.60, a penny higher than last Thursday, two cents less than last month, and 59 cents higher than this time last year. On the Central Coast, the average price is $3.69, which is a penny lower than last week, two cents lower than last month, and 61 cents higher than last year. In Riverside, the average per-gallon price is $3.52, which is one cent higher than last week, three cents lower than last month, and 56 cents more than at this time last year.

“Wednesday, the Energy Information Administration reported that regional fuel supplies have reached their lowest point of the year,” said Auto Club spokesman Jeffrey Spring. “Local refiners are apparently short on supplies to make the summer blend of gasoline that stations are required to sell until Oct. 31, causing a drawdown on inventory and sending futures and wholesale prices higher.”

Spring said holiday weekend drivers can save money on fuel by using cruise control on long road trips and shopping around for the cheapest gas prices near them with the free AAA Mobile app.

The Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline. As of 9 a.m. on Aug. 30, averages are:
