(Victorville)– The City of Victorville is now seeking volunteers and sponsors for the next Victorville Community Cleanup Day scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 20.
Community Cleanup Day sponsors are listed on the event t-shirt worn by hundreds of volunteers. In addition, sponsors are acknowledged on fliers and in event summary press releases. Volunteers receive a free t-shirt and discount coupons for lunch at participating Victorville restaurants.
Individuals or groups interested in volunteering need to sign up by Oct. 4 to receive a t-shirt. On-line registration is available from the City of Victorville website at www.VictorvilleCa.Gov/CCU. Volunteers without access to a computer can pick up paper copies of the registration form at City Hall, 14343 Civic Dr. or request forms by calling (760) 955-8615. City Hall is open Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Individuals are encouraged to join with friends, family, and community groups to create teams to participate. The event is open to all High Desert residents. Businesses, schools, and churches are also encouraged to create teams to participate.
The Victorville Community Cleanup Day is a semi-annual event, held each April and October. The first event was held in October 2007. Since then, more than 14,100 volunteers have worked together to collect over 176 tons of litter from Victorville roadsides. In October 2017, a record number of 1,123 volunteers collected 19.66 tons of litter from 34 different sites around the City. This was the largest number of volunteers to ever sign up for the event.
For more information on sponsorship, or to request a waiver by mail, potential volunteers and sponsors should call the City of Victorville Community Services Department at (760) 955-8615.
