(Apple Valley)– The public is invited to a reception to bid farewell to Council Member Barb Stanton from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 23 in the Town Conference Center.
Stanton, who was elected to her first term in 2010, recently announced she will not seek re-election as she moves out of state to be closer to family.
“I can’t thank the Town of Apple Valley enough.” said Stanton, who was the first woman to serve as Mayor of Apple Valley twice. “As for my colleagues, I encourage you to continue your journey. I’ll be watching from Tennessee.”
Stanton has been appointed to numerous boards and commissions within the League of California Cities including the Public Safety Policy Committee, the Environmental Quality Policy Committee, the Transportation, Communication and Public Works Committee and the Desert Mountian Division CitiPAC Organizing Committee.
In 2015, Barb received the League of California Cities Larry Chimbole Public Service Award and was recognized as a “Most Inspiring Woman of the Victor Valley.”
One of her most notable appointments was her election as President of the Women’s Caucus of the League of California Cities in 2017. The Women’s Caucus is an influential group of diverse professionals working to remove barriers encountered by women in public office. Directly supporting the League’s mission to restore and protect local control, The Women’s Caucus provides a network to support issues that benefit and empower women at the local level of government.
“She will be sorely missed by her fellow elected, Town and League staff, the citizens of Apple Valley and anyone else who has been affected by her lively and engaging personality, warm and caring spirit, and her passion for life,” said Town Manager Doug Robertson.
The reception will offer an array of sweet treats and provide an opportunity for residents to wish her well on her new journey. The Town Conference Center is located at 14975 Dale Evans Parkway. To RSVP or for more information call Lena Quinonez at (760) 240-7000 x7051.
