Free Backyard Composting Workshop

By Staff Reports

(Apple Valley)– A free backyard composting workshop will be held on Saturday, November 17 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Apple Valley Conference Center located at 14975 Dale Evans Parkway.  The course covers the basics of backyard composting, recycling, and how to become a Green Team Volunteer.

Backyard composting is the process of turning green waste, such as yard clippings and kitchen scraps, into valuable soil known as “compost”. Backyard composting not only enriches soils but also keeps green waste out of the waste stream and prolongs the life of our landfills.

Green Team Volunteers educate the general public on the benefits of composting, recycling, and other ways to keep items out of the landfills.  The workshop will provide a chance to learn more about conservation, gardening techniques, offer networking opportunities and support the community and the environment.

The program is sponsored by the Town of Apple Valley, the Cities of Adelanto and Victorville, the County of San Bernardino, and the Mojave Desert & Mountain Recycling Authority.
