(Adelanto)– On Monday evening, the High Desert Outreach Center held its annual Thanksgiving Dinner at the Adelanto Senior Center, bringing the community together to help each other as well as to enjoy a hot meal for the holidays. Taylion High Desert Academy staff, students, and their families volunteered for the fourth straight year, helping serve meals and more.
“This dinner brings everyone together no matter what your background is,” said High Desert Outreach Center Executive Director Carmen Laird. “It’s a place where everyone comes together and enjoys everyone’s company.”
The outreach center has hosted a Thanksgiving Dinner annually since 2006, serving members from across the High Desert community a hot meal in time for the holidays. The Adelanto based non-profit had a number of volunteers assisting this year, including members of Taylion Academy’s Student Council.
“I enjoyed being able to help and give back to the community and help serve a hot Thanksgiving meal,” said Envy Pasillas, Taylion Academy Student Council member.
The Thanksgiving dinner brought many members from Adelanto and the surrounding cities. Attendees included the newly elected Adelanto Mayor Gabriel Reyes, newly elected Adelanto City Council members Gerardo Hernandez and Stevevonna Evans and current Adelanto Councilman Ed Camargo.
“Thank you to everyone who donated, came out to help and to everyone that cooked,” said Laird. “It’s a group of volunteers that work as a team to make this happen every year.”
