(Victor Valley)– In California, there were an estimated 352 pedestrian deaths between January 2017 and June 2017. That’s the 15th highest rate in the country.
With more Californians are walking more than ever. So it’s important for everyone to take pedestrian safety seriously. Pedestrians are not allowed to walk on or cross the freeway due to the extreme safety hazards. Here are a few safety tips for pedestrians on our surface streets:
BE VISIBLE – Wear bright clothing and reflective items.
WALK FACING TRAFFIC – If there is no sidewalk. Cross at corners and crosswalks.
EYE CONTACT – Even if you have the right-of-way at a crossway. Make eye contact with approaching traffic as it slows to make sure they are paying attention and they see you. For more safety tips visit www.chp.ca.gov/bike-and-ped-safety
