Apple Valley Expands Home Improvement Offerings for Low Income Residents

(Apple Valley)– Rain, high winds and freezing temperatures have made an impact on Apple Valley homes in recent weeks. Homeowners preparing for the coming winter season may qualify for the Town of Apple Valley’s Residential Rehabilitation Loan Program to make repairs, replace old appliances or furnish new improvements to their existing home.

The Rehab program has been expanded to include owner-occupied multi-family housing, up to 4 units. The owner must reside in one of the units and all tenants must meet proper income requirements under the terms and conditions of the federally-funded program.

“This latest opportunity will provide a better standard of living for our community,” said Mayor Art Bishop. “Qualified residents can repair roofs, install or replace insulation and repair or purchase a new heating unit, for example.”

The program itself offers a 0% interest loan up to $25,000 for eligible participants that can be used to increase energy conservation, replace or modify any health, safety or code violations and make improvements for disabled accessibility or other necessary repairs for deferred maintenance. For example, a family of four with a clear title and a maximum income of $53,900 annually could qualify for a 0% simple interest loan deferred for 30 years.

“By offering this latest opportunity, the Rehab program continues its good work to provide additional safety, pride of ownership and expanded economic growth for our town,” said Bishop.
