By Staff Reports

(Victor Valley)– The Board of Supervisors on Jan. 8 approved the one additional Deputy to the Sheriff’s HOPE team to address homeless issues. The County Department of Behavioral Services and the Sheriff’s Department will provide homeless mentally ill individuals and their families with services that include outreach, intensive case management, advocacy, linkage and referrals to other resources with the goal to lead these individuals to self-sufficiency and permanent supportive housing.

HOPE, which stands for Homeless Outreach and Proactive Enforcement, is a pro-active program intended to ultimately reduce calls for service and other resources currently required to deal with the homeless population. The HOPE program aims to balance pro-active outreach with enforcement of the law, while connecting members of the homeless population with resources that may help them transition from homelessness.
