Center for Islamic & Middle Eastern Studies Hosts Screening of ‘The Tiger Hunter’

(Victor Valley)–The Center for Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies(CIMES) at Cal State San Bernardino will host a screening of “The Tiger Hunter,” a comedy starring Danny Pudi and written, produced and directed by Lena Khan, on Tuesday, Feb. 19.

The free event – co-sponsored by Intellectual Life, the Department of Communication Studies and International Programs at CSUSB – will take place in the university’s John M. Pfau Library, room PL-5005, from noon- 2 p.m.

A question-and-answer session with Khan will follow the movie.

The Tiger Hunter,” according to its IMDB entry, is about “a young Indian man (who) relocates to 1970s Chicago to become an engineer, but when his job falls through, resorts to an elaborate charade with misfit friends in order to woo his childhood sweetheart.”

Khan is a Canadian American filmmaker and writer who is an alumna of the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television. Before embarking on making “The Tiger Hunter,” she spent years directing short films, commercials and music videos.

In an interview with the newspaperat her alma mater in 2013, Khan said the comedy originated from stories from her father, who was a Muslim Indian immigrant in the 1970s, and added to them interviews with various characters.

Khan and her work have been profiled in Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Teen Vogue, USA Today and The New York Times. She was also listed as one of the 25 Screenwriters to watch in MovieMaker magazine.

In the last year, she has sold a television show, is setting up another at a network, and is now attached to direct a family comedy, “Flora & Ulysses,” for Disney.
