(Victor Valley)– General Atomics, manufacturer of unmanned aerial vehicles deployed around the world, broke ground March 20 on a $40 million, 150,000-square-foot complex of buildings at its El Mirage facility.The 12-month construction phase is expected to include 150 contractors. Local firms are being used where feasible. When complete, the facility will add approximately 30 to 45 new hires, with plans for an additional 200 hires. “I’d like to thank Supervisor Lovingood and the team at the County for all their hard work in securing the (conditional use permits). We definitely had to work through some challenges, said Dennis Garegnani, vice president of facilities. “We really appreciate the help.”
The largest portion of the project is a 120,754-square-foot hangar. The project is in support of testing of the MQ-9B Long Wing SkyGuardian for the United Kingdom and other international customers. Approximately 2,000 people currently work at General Atomics’ El Mirage facility.
