(Victor Valley)– San Bernardino County Fire Chief Don Trapp is pleased to announce the assignment of Assistant Chief Tim Porter to Division 5 (North Desert Division) effective April 1.  As Assistant Chief, Porter will take responsibility for fire, rescue and emergency medical response in the North Desert region.

“Chief Porter has devoted years of hard work to the High Desert, and we are thankful that he has accepted a new role where he can provide increased leadership and direction to the department,” stated Fire Chief Don Trapp.

Division 5 covers a vast area including the City of Hesperia, and the communities of Wrightwood, Phelan, Pinon Hills, Lucerne Valley, Summit Valley, and a portion of the Cajon Pass.  Firefighters responded to over 16,700 emergency calls for service in Division 5 this past fiscal year.

“I am honored to be selected for this position. I look forward to continuing the strong working relationship with the communities we serve and the surrounding fire agencies,” stated Assistant Chief Porter. “Fire prevention and education remain a priority.”

Assistant Chief Porter has over 31 years of fire service experience beginning in 1988 as a paid-call firefighter with the Victorville Fire Department. He recently served as the Assistant Chief in the Training and Special Operations Division before being reassigned to Division 5.

Chief Porter enjoys the great outdoors; hiking, hunting, fishing and camping. Tim and his wife Page have 3 kids and 1 grandson and have proudly resided in the High Desert for over 34 years.
