By Staff Reports

(Victor Valley)– The San Bernardino County and Riverside County District Attorneys have secured over 180 felony counts in a four-county, $123 million workers compensation fraud case.

During the April 2 Board of Supervisors’ meeting, Supervisor Lovingood highlighted the work of District Attorney Jason Anderson’s Workers Comp Fraud unit.

“They currently are o case where they have identified over $123 million in fraud, through a fraudulent medical network,” Supervisor Lovingood said. “This is positive in business attraction to employers. And I just want to commend the D.A.’s ofice for being pro-active in that area.”

Blue Oak Medical Group operated clinics in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino counties. Based on the size of the criminal enterprise, no one county had the resources to successfully impact its operations. So San Bernardino and Riverside counties jointly investigated the case. Prosecutors presented six weeks of evidence from over 50 witnesses to a Riverside County Grand Jury. Earlier this year, prosecutors won indictments against eight defendants, accusing them of over 180 felony counts of workers’ compensation insurance fraud related crimes.

“Workers compensation fraud is a big cost to private employers, and it actually is a job killer in some locations,” Supervisor Lovingood said.
