(Victor Valley)– New research affirms what we’ve known in San Bernardino County for several years — that we have fast become Southern California’s hub for emerging 21st-century employment opportunities. The Workforce Roadmap study, conducted for the county’s Workforce Development Board, shows that manufacturing, logistics and healthcare will account for 55 percent of all job growth here in the coming years, reports Tony Myrell, chairman of the San Bernardino County Workforce Development Board. Impressively, San Bernardino County is outpacing the state in terms of manufacturing growth and has emerged as the nation’s leading hub for logistics and goods movement.
The report notes that if we raise the County’s labor force participation rate to that of neighboring counties, an additional 33,000 to 108,000 jobs could be filled with local talent.
To accomplish this will take the collaboration and support of government, education, nonprofits and businesses themselves — something WDB has taken the lead on through programs such as on-the-job training and GenerationGo!, which provides students with training and hands-on experience in real-world jobs. http://wp.sbcounty.gov/workforce/
