CalPortland Completes $58.5 Million Expansion at Oro Grande Cement Plant

By Staff Reports

(Victor Valley)– CalPortland unveiled a state-of-the-art rapid fill bulk cement loading station at the Oro Grande cement plant during a May 9 customer appreciation ribbon cutting event.

The $58.5 million project included the construction of the finish ball mill, two new cement loadout lanes and two new distribution silos. The projects bring an additional 64 percent in total production capacity. The local plant can now produce 2.3 million tons of cement per year, making the Oro Grande cement plant one of the most efficient cement production facilities in the United States.

“The new mill and efficient truck loadout scales complete the plant upgrade begun in 2008 by Riverside Cement Company,” said Allen Hamblen, President/CEO, CalPortland. “CalPortland is proud to finish the expansion and build out of one of the most modern cement plants in the country.”

The Oro Grande cement plant was awarded the 2018 ENERGY STAR® Plant Certification for Superior Energy Efficiency and was a major contributor to the award of the national 2019 Energy Star Partner of the Year.
