(Victorville)— On Saturday, May 18th, Linebreakers- the High Desert’s premiere comic book and game store, was one of 30 cities to be a part of the 5th Annual Campaign Against Cancer, raising funds to benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital to help improve the lives of kids with cancer. Over 40 gamers came together in Old Town Victorville, raising over $1,000, with all proceeds going directly to help the fight against childhood cancer.

“I am excited that we were able to be a part of such a great event,” said Linebreakers Owner David McKean. “The Campaign Against Cancer is something I wholeheartedly support, and I am honored to be able to host this event here in the High Desert.”

The event was held all day on Saturday, drawing in crowds of hardcore gamers with a cause. This unique fundraiser featured Star Wars fans across the High Desert leveraging their hobby to raise money to fight childhood cancer.  Organized by Twin Suns Charities and local volunteers, the 2019 Campaign Against Cancer feature 1,000+ participants at 30 locations worldwide using the Star Wars X-Wing Miniatures game to reach a goal of $30,000 for the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

“Linebreakers is one of the few places that is both willing and able to host events like this fundraiser,” said event organizer Sean Tracy. “When I originally brought this idea to David McKean at Linebreakers, there was no hesitation. He just asked what I needed to make it happen.”

A strategic table-top game, X-Wing Miniatures invites players to take on the role of squad leader while they compete in fierce ship-to-ship space combat. The event spans 30 cities globally, with 3 international locations in Australia and Germany.  In 2018 nearly $35,000 was raised from 25 locations globally through the Campaign Against Cancer and donated to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and Kids With Cancer.

Linebreakers is located at 15491 7th Street in Victorville. For more information, call  (760) 951-8406 or visit the store online at www.linebreakers.club.
