(Hesperia)– Hesperia Recreation and Park District announces Mining Supplies and Rock Shop’s rockhounding field trip on Saturday, May 25th, looking for Malachite, Azurite, Chrysocolla and many other interesting rocks. The meeting spot for the field trip will be at the Dagget/Yermo exit off of Interstate 40 at 8:00 a.m. We will be leaving from the meeting spot at 8:15 a.m. sharp! Any two-wheel drive vehicle with good clearance should be able to make the drive. You will need to bring with you a rock hammer, a bucket to carry your finds, protective eye wear, plenty of water, snacks, sunscreen, a full size spare tire, and good hiking shoes (some areas require a bit of a hike, normally less than a half mile). You may also want to bring a heavy hammer, chisels, and/or pickaxe.
We will be exploring some areas around Ord Mountain and depending on the time and weather, we may make more stops back towards Barstow.
Please note: If you are allergic to bees please come prepared with the proper supplies needed in case of a bee sting. The spring bees are out and are attracted to any water source.
The fee for the field trip is $10.00 in-store, $11.00 through PayPal, or $20.00 at the meet site. For more information please contact Mining and Rock Supply at 760-244-9642, visit www.miningsuppliesandrockshop.com, or stop by the shop Wednesday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
