Caltrans Flexible Work Windows Initiative

By Staff Reports

(Victor Valley)– In the last five years, over 3,000 people nationwide lost their lives in work zone collisions and more than 85 percent of them were the motoring public. At the 2018 Caltrans Safety Summit, Caltrans made a call to action and is implementing three new safety initiatives to end work zone fatalities.

One of those initiatives is Flexible Work Windows. This reduces the number of days crews are exposed to traffic. Crews can work longer hours and fewer days on a project, as opposed to working fewer hours and more days.

We know your time is important to you, and we want to keep you moving. Flexible work windows get the job done. It may be a bitter pill to swallow, but it’s the right prescription to improve our roads, faster and safer, while saving money.

One death on our highway system, whether it’s a Caltrans employee, a resident or someone visiting our great state, is one death too many.

In the second of three videos, Caltrans Public Information Officer Alisa Becerra shows the importance of using Flexible Work Windows.
