National Purple Heart Day

By Staff Reports

(Victor Valley)– The Purple Heart began as an award called the Badge of Military Merit, an honor created by General George Washington on August 7, 1782.

Now on this day each year, we observe National Purple Heart Day. It’s a time for Americans to recognize and honor those who were either wounded on the battlefield or made the ultimate sacrifice defending our nation and our freedom. We owe it to our brave men and women in uniform who do everything they can to make the world a better place.
