(Victor Valley)– Since 2013, High Desert native, Paul Salopek, has been on a 21,000-mile journey walking around the world as a National Geographic Fellow. He is walking the pathways of the first humans who migrated out of Africa.
He started in Ethiopia and is currently in India. Along the way he is covering the major stories of our time by giving voice to the people he meets. “I am engaged, not just in a walk for the next seven, eight, nine years. I’m engaged in a seven, eight, nine year long conversation with total strangers,” he said in an interview. Originally from Barstow, Salopek grew up in central Mexico.
