Carlos Monterrey Named Apple Valley Employee of the Quarter

By Staff Reports

(Victor Valley)– Facilities Maintenance Supervisor, Carlos Monterrey has been selected as the Town of Apple Valley’s Employee of the Quarter for the 2nd quarter of 2020.

“Carlos and the entire facilities department have been invaluable during this pandemic,” said Town Manager Doug Robertson. “Together, they have orchestrated enhanced cleaning and sanitizing at all Town offices and facilities in addition to their normal operations. Carlos has also been instrumental at recent Town events such as our coronavirus testing sites to ensure the public and our employees are safe.”

Hired in 2019, Monterrey began his role as a Senior Maintenance Worker. Today as the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor, Carlos oversees the care and maintenance of all Town facilities including the Public Works building, Apple Valley Golf Course buildings, the Animal Shelter and more.

“The coronavirus has changed the entire scope of work for our Facilities Department and we have Carlos to thank for much of their success,” said Mayor Scott Nassif. “While Town Hall is currently closed to the public, Carlos and his team are hard at work making sure all Town staff working in the office have clean and safe environments. We cannot thank them enough.”

“Although a lot of our staff schedules have changed, we are still providing a safe and hygienic environment for all of our employees,” said Monterrey. “My favorite part of the job is having the ability to interact with everyone in each of the departments. Even assisting with the events we have in Town is very fun and enjoyable. It just feels good to give back to the community.”

Carlos has a background in facilities maintenance and construction management from both San Jose City College and Pasadena City College. He lives in Apple Valley with his girlfriend Georgina and two sons Luca and Bruno.

Carlos will be recognized as the Employee of the Quarter at the May 26 Town Council Meeting.

Nominations for Employee of the Quarter are submitted by peers or management and honorees are selected by a committee.
