(Victor Valley)– The Mojave Chapter of the Air & Waste Management Association (A&WMA), West Coast Section has awarded Bryan Castillo and Yvette Figueroa each a Walter A. Nunes Memorial Scholarship for the 2019-20 school year.

The Chapter annually awards up to two $500 scholarships to students within the chapter’s boundaries who are currently enrolled to begin studies at a college/university and are pursuing an educational path in STEM courses – science, technology, engineering and mathematics – and demonstrate an interest in environmental issues.

Castillo, a graduate of University Preparatory in Victorville is headed to University of Nevada, Las Vegas in the spring to study nursing.

Figueroa is currently enrolled at California State University, San Bernardino and majoring in Environmental Health. She hopes to one day work in pollution control.

Founded in 1907, the core purpose of A&WMA is to improve environmental knowledge and decisions by providing a neutral forum for exchanging information. A&WMA’s Sections and Chapters are local member units that provide members with environmental leadership, region-specific programming, and networking opportunities close to home.
