(Victor Valley)– San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools held its annual Operation Recognition Veterans Diploma Project this week.

The program grants high school diplomas to veterans who were unable to complete high school due to military service or internment. First District honorees included former Apple Valley resident  Air Force Capt. Joseph C. McConnell, Jr., who was the all-time No. 1 jet ace in American history and the subject of a 1955 motion picture, and U.S. Army Sergeant Jesse Bernal Lopez, who shared that he has lived “a life of purpose” in the High Desert.

Congratulations to the class of 2020 for this well-deserved recognition! We are deeply grateful for your service and sacrifice.
