(Apple Valley)– Mayor Curt Emick received the first of two COVID vaccine shots today at the Choice Medical Group vaccination clinic in Apple Valley.
As a pharmacist and healthcare worker, Emick was eligible as part of the state’s first phase of the COVID vaccination rollout.
Mayor Emick filmed an informational video during his visit and discussed the vaccine, its safety, and efficacy, with Dr. Rahul Nayyar, Chief Medical Officer and Chief Operating Officer of Choice Medical Group and Chief Medical Officer at Victor Valley Global Medical Center.
“I am very grateful to Dr. Nayyar and Choice Medical Group for hosting this vaccine clinic. This is important work for the health and safety our community,” said Mayor Emick.
Choice Medical Group received the Moderna vaccine from San Bernardino County and is currently vaccinating healthcare workers, and patients 65 and older, as part of the Phase 1A rollout and as well as first responders as part of the Phase 1B, Tier One rollout. The Moderna vaccine requires two vaccinations 28 days apart. According to Nayyar, the efficacy is between 93% and 94% two weeks after the second vaccination.
“We are working very closely with the County to assure we vaccinate our community so we can start getting some sort of normalcy in our lives. Being raised in the High desert, I have always had a strong sense of community. It’s been devastating to see what Covid-19 has done to our community,” added Dr. Nayyar. “The sooner all of us get vaccinated, the sooner small businesses open, schools open, restaurants open and the burden decreases at the hospitals.”
