(Barstow)– U.S. Air Force veteran Austin Aquilina was one of many Barstow Veterans Home residents who received his first COVID-19 vaccine on Thursday.
“I didn’t feel a thing,” said Aquilina. “I see it as hope in a bottle, at first I was nervous to take it, but I am grateful it is available to me.”
Laura Moraco, public information officer for the Veterans Home, said that CVS Pharmacy will make three visits to the facility to ensure residents and staff receive their initial shots and critical boosters. CalVet’s eight homes are enrolled in the state and federal Pharmacy Partnership Program with Walgreens and CVS Pharmacy.
Barstow Veterans Home LVN Wayne Ulmer shared his enthusiasm for receiving the vaccine. “This is what I have been waiting for – to be able to protect my family,” he said. “I see what’s happening around us, the suffering, and I don’t want that to happen to my family.”
