(Apple Valley)– Maintenance Worker II, David Hernandez has been selected as the Town of Apple Valley’s Employee of the Quarter for the 1st quarter of 2021.

“David works alongside me as the lead worker for the Grounds Division staff,” said Public Works Supervisor Jabez Vargas. “In the last year, David has taken on the Reclaimed Water Project for three of the Town parks all while training staff and overseeing the daily duties of the department. He has not missed a beat.”

Hired part-time in 2013, David has held many duties in both the Grounds and Public Works departments. Within his first year of employment, David was offered a full-time position and was recently promoted in March 2020.

Today, David is tasked with maintaining the landscape of many Apple Valley parks, exercise equipment, sidewalks as well as general safety concerns submitted by the public. David currently oversees the Town’s Reclaimed Water Project and will also be managing a new landscaping project in the near future at Civic Center Park.

“David has become a valuable member of the Town,” said Mayor Curt Emick. “He has done a tremendous job supervising these community projects and beautifying our parks. On behalf of the Town Council, I want to congratulate and thank David for his service to Apple Valley.”

David was born and raised in Corona, California and currently lives in Barstow with his wife Lauren, their three sons Trent, Jaycub, and Nolan and two daughters Malee and Layla.

“I enjoy the hands-on work,” said Hernandez. “I appreciate the trust I receive from my own supervisor and staff. Every time we receive positive comments from the public it lets us know that our jobs are fulfilling and that the hard work is appreciated. This town is a second home for me and my family and I enjoy getting to be a part of its design and beauty.”

David was recognized as the Employee of the Quarter at the Feb. 9 Town Council Meeting.

Nominations for Employee of the Quarter are submitted by peers or management and honorees are selected by the Town Manager.
