(Apple Valley)– As the weather warms and COVID cases continue to dwindle, the Town of Apple Valley will host a full slate of summer entertainment including the popular Freedom Festival, Sunset Concert Series, Day Camp, and more.
“We’ve missed seeing our neighbors, friends and family participate in everything from in-person forums, and blood drives to free concerts and running events,” said Mayor Curt Emick. “Our parks, recreation programs, and special events are a big part of what make Apple Valley the best place to live and play in the High Desert. I am thrilled to announce that we are resuming in-person events beginning Memorial Day weekend.”
The fun will begin on Saturday, May 29 with a Summer Kickoff Celebration. The Recreation Department will host games and activities at many of the Town’s parks; and the Aquatic Center at Civic Center Park will open for recreational swim and private, semi-private and group swim lessons. Summer Day Camp will begin June 1 with weekly themes and activities including exclusive Day Camp swim hours.
Civic Center Park will be filled with live music entertainment again beginning June 17 when Latin Express opens the Sunset Concert Series from 6 to 9 p.m. The lineup this summer includes:
June 24 – Phat Cat Swinger (Swing)
July 8 – Rockin’ on Heaven’s Door (Classic Rock)
July 15 – Mighty Cash Cats (Johnny Cash Cover Band) & the Linda Ronstadt Experience
July 22 – Neon Nation (80s Music)
“Of course, it wouldn’t be summer in Apple Valley without fireworks,” said Mayor Emick, who hosted last year’s fireworks show with an online viewing and simulcast. “But this year we can once again all watch together inside Brewster Park.”
The gates will open at 2 p.m. for an afternoon and evening of food vendors, shopping, kid’s activities and live music. Local favorite Southern Spirit will take the stage in the afternoon, followed by headline band Phoenix Rising, also an Apple Valley fan favorite.
The Town will follow any public health guidelines in place at the time of each event such as capacity limits, social distancing and masks, as required.
Registration for swim lessons and day camp will be available at www.AVRecreation.org beginning April 26.
Vendor applications for all events will be accepted May 3 for Apple Valley businesses, and on May 10 for non-residents. Follow Apple Valley on Facebook and Instagram for the most up to date information. Call the Recreation Department for additional information at (760) 240-7880.
