(Victor Valley)– The San Bernardino County Department of Public Health (SBCDPH) invites the community to celebrate National Health Center Week (NHCW) August 8th – 14th, 2021. NHCW is an annual week-long celebration that aims to increase community awareness about how health centers provide affordable health care and aims to generate community collaboration and support for the Health Center program. During NHCW the SBCDPH Health Centers have the opportunity to display the patient -based model of care and services offered to the community.
This year’s NHCW theme is “Community Health Centers: The Chemistry for Strong Communities.” The SBCDPH’s Adelanto, Hesperia, Ontario and San Bernardino Health Centers will be handing out incentives to patients and recruiting for patient community health center governing board members throughout the week. Educational materials will be distributed at the health centers and through the Patient Portal. Daily topics include: Community Health Day, Children’s Health Day, Workforce Development Day, and Collaborative Partner’s Day.
On July 9, 2019, the County Board of Supervisors adopted a proclamation recognizing NHCW as a way to raise awareness about the mission and accomplishments of the SBCDPH’s community Health Centers, also known as Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs).
NHCW community events align with the Countywide Vision to develop healthy communities and make healthcare accessible by providing a range of services onsite including: primary care, pediatrics, immunizations, reproductive health, prenatal care, mental health, tuberculosis (TB) screening, HIV testing and care as well as dental care services.
